The "Filter" Scan (Leveraging the Interface)

The fastest way to advance is to prioritize by number:

• Selection by Number: Tap or select a number on the keypad (e.g., the '7').
• Leverage Highlighting: When selected, all cells that already contain that number are highlighted, as well as its row, column, and 3x3 block.
• Locate Unique Candidates: Use this filter to search for 3x3 blocks where that number is still missing. By exclusion of row or column, quickly locate the only possible cell where it must go. This method is key for speed.
• Quick Confirmation: When you finish placing the same number nine times, it will be marked in gray on the keypad, confirming that you can move to the next number without needing to check it again.

Unlike other versions, here you must solve it in your head, without the aid of candidate notes in the cells. This demands mental mastery and a highly strategic use of hints.

Intelligent Use of Hints

Remember: Each hint reveals a random number and penalizes you with 30 seconds:

• Dead Time is Expensive: The 30-second penalty should be your benchmark. If you have been completely stuck and making no progress for more than 30-45 seconds, using a hint is more cost-effective than remaining blocked.
• Critical Moments: Save the hint for moments of total block, where you can't see the solution anywhere on the board.
• "In-Your-Head" Approach: For difficult cells, hold the candidates in your working memory (e.g., "only a 4 or a 9 can go here"). Return to the cell after a couple of moves if you have placed a number that eliminates one of those candidates.

The Golden Rule: Only 100% Certain Numbers

• Do Not Guess: If you are not completely sure of a number, DO NOT enter it.
• The Cost of Error: When you finish an incorrect Sudoku, the application does not indicate the erroneous cells. Trying to find a mistake blindly is almost always much slower and more costly than simply starting a new Sudoku.
• Restart on Failure: If you complete the board and the solution is incorrect, restart immediately. Acknowledge the temporary defeat and start over with a fresh base time to secure a better record.
